The archiving of as-built and approved drawings, along with the drawing lists, vendor test reports and site test reports with i-doc helped this client, one of the earliest integrated steel plants in the Public Sector in India, reduce manual labour by 40% saving almost 20,000 man-hours every year with quick search and retrieval of documents.

This client is one of the earliest integrated steel plants in the Public Sector in India. It was set with German Collaboration with an installed capacity of 1 million tonnes. Subsequently, its capacity was increased to 2 million tonnes of hot metal, 1.9 million tonnes of crude steel and 1.67 million tonnes of saleable steel. After implementing a massive modernisation and expansion, the plant capacity was increased to 4.5 million tonnes of hot metal and 4.2 million tonnes of crude steel.

The project engineers of different disciplines were facing challenges in maintaining very large engineering drawings in a steel plant of such magnitude. Working on these drawings were highly time-consuming as the project engineers had to follow several copies of a single drawing, and each discipline had limitless sub-indexing which was proving very difficult to maintain manually and prone to errors. Additionally, engineers from different disciplines were required to maintain secrecy about the approved drawing and not expose it to engineers of different disciplines.

The as-built drawings were uploaded to i-doc with the correct indexing and sub-indexing. The codification of the indexing for each drawing was generated systematically through the system and duplicates were checked for. The users could create limitless sub-indexing under each module.

AutoCAD (.dwg) files could also be searched and viewed in the in-built viewer, and all the as-built as well as approved drawings were archived in the server and could be easily retrieved with just a few clicks.

The user could download and edit drawings offline and re-upload the same with a versioning facility. A user-wise rights assignment feature for accessing the modules and the i-doc DMS could be accessed separately by different module (discipline) users. This helped maintain the inter-disciplinary secrecy.

A fully automated archiving of as-built as well as approved engineering drawings of several modules and sub-modules

Drawing list, vendor test report and site test report archival

It reduced the manual process by at least 40%

Easier and faster searching of large drawings and related documents, saving almost 20,000 man-hours of effort per year
