Steel Authority of India Limited is a public sector undertaking owned and operated by the government of India. It is the 24th largest steel manufacturing company in the world. SAIL, as a leading steel manufacturing company in the world generates various types of documents everyday that ranges from plant designs, machine designs, project plans, invoices, legal contract, marketing plans, government documents etc. The number of documents that soared to more than 1,15,404 was losing certain attributes like searchability and manageability taking a toll on the overall productivity of the CMO and Raw Material Department.
A lot of time were wasted on searching these documents and archiving them properly. Timely retrieval was becoming impossible as they were haphazardly stored in various parts of the departments without any centrally administered monitoring system. To make matter worse, some of these documents were old and poor preservation crippled and damaged these documents. The organization wanted to complete enterprise content management solution that would digitize the hard copies and store them in a centrally operated repository, preferably a web based common platform providing access to all important data. The amalgamation of both the solution would ensure fast recovery of data checking the wastage of time and money devoted to manual search and sharing of hard copy files and making multiple replications of them.
Their were two digitization projects executed by Somnetics’ ECM (Enterprise Content Management) division at the Client site. Each digitization project was dedicated to the requirements of each department (RMD and CMO), followed by installation of i-doc document management system. The first project took about a month to complete, while the second one consuming about two months including scanning and digitization, quality control and uploading the scanned matters in the document management system.Download Case Study
